In this recent youtube video by the lovely ladies over at Heart Full Of Books, (featuring yours truly!), we discuss our love of the television series Nowhere Boys. This show is a thing of beauty, and from it spawned an idea for a bit of Nowhere Boys-related fun I could have with the books on my own bookshelf. Mandatory warning: this post might give away one little surprise from towards the end of series one, but only if you’re in the middle of watching, okay? Good, moving on. For those not familiar with the show, elemental magic plays a hugely significant role within the plot, and in addition the elements link to characters. Below you’ll find five categories each named after a key character, all accompanied by two questions based on the element they represent. I set myself the challenge of finding a book that matched with each question, and this was the result! Here goes nothing…

1. Felixscarlet coverdivergent uk cover

  • Can you find a book with fire on the cover?  – Divergent by Veronica Roth; as well as the burning dauntless symbol, this cover has flames licking at the bottom of the book.
  • Pick a book with red on the spine. – Scarlet by Marissa Meyer; red hair, red cloak, red writing and the name Scarlet, all on one spine.

2. Jakeisla-and-the-happily-ever-after coverBoO Cover

  • Do you have a book with earth on the cover? – The Blood of Olympus by Rick Riordan; lots of leaves and dirt and rocks on this one, so it’s all looking very mountainous.
  • Choose a book with green on the spine. – Isla and the Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins; the entire thing is literally just a continuous green gradient, easy peasy!

3. Samrivers of london coverDay 21 Cover

  • Do you own a book with air on the cover? – Day 21 by Kass Morgan; its got a bunch of people falling through the sky, what more do you need!
  • Find a book with a white spine. – Rivers of London by Ben Aaronovitch; what colour even is air anyway?

4. AndyASOS pt2 coverfathomless cover

  • Can you see a book with water on the cover? – Fathomless by Jackson Pearce; you’ve got deep water and, as an added bonus, bubbles!
  • Locate a book with a blue spine. – A Storm of Swords Part II: Blood and Gold by George R. R. Martin; this was the first book that drew my eye because the colour is really bright.

5. OscarHarry Potter CoSThe_Last_Olympian_Book_5_UK_Cover

  • Is there a book on your shelf that makes you feel complete? – The Last Olympian by Rick Riordan; I love this book, and it was a beautiful ending to a beautiful series.
  • Can you find a book with all four colours on the cover? – Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J. K. Rowling; green, blue, red and white can all be found on this cover and on the spine! I challenge you to find a better example!

I’ve had so much fun doing this, and I reckon I know my bookshelves much better now! I’d love to know what examples you would use for each of the above questions, so feel free to comment with your ideas.
